According to Martha Beck,
"So the ultimate lesson of regret, the one that will help guide you into a rich and satisfying future, is this: Every time life brings you to a crossroads, from the tiniest to the most immense, go toward love, not away from fear. Think of every choice in terms of "What would thrill and delight me?" rather than "What will keep my fear—or the events, people, and things I fear—at bay?" "(Within reason, of course. Blowing your grocery money for the thrill and delight of losing it at the track may lead to it's own kind of regret!)

Last year, I complained mid-November about the Christmas decorations and merchandise being on display. It's happening again. Christmas stuff everywhere.
Is it too much to ask for time to breathe between marketing seasonal festivities?

(Or The Pareto Principle)
For a many activities, 80% of the value received will come from 20% of the effort. (With the remaining 80% of the effort spent finessing only 20% of the value.)
How much time do you spend fine-tuning the last 20% of the outcome?

Ever have One Of Those Days? The kind of day where it feels like every time you come close to being productive, someone drops a brick wall obstacle in your path?
If you're really lucky, there will be a stress reduction kit on one of those walls. It feels really good when you stop.

Growing up, I never thought twice about the hopscotch pattern. At the local schools it was drawn as depicted under "A" below. Isn't that how everyone does it?
Flash forward to reading blog posts as an adult. Design "B" is clearly illustrated in (Ottawa) Andrea's post How to play hopscotch. A quick and by no means complete survey of children's toys revealed design "C."
What are the cultural and geographic variations for drawing a hopscotch board? Drop me a comment ... which pattern is familiar to you and where do you live?

Yes, yes. I know. I ran this last week. But with Neatorama's recent post "Why Materialism Makes You Unhappy" and Seth Godin's post "When in doubt, (don't) follow the money" I felt the need to add "material things" to the diagram.
To clarify, I believe a certain amount of money is required for happiness. Money for food and shelter as examples. I seem to recall Deepak Chopra saying something to the effect of "giving away all of your money and material things will not make you happy."
In that same talk, he said that money doesn't bring happiness and that good health doesn't bring happiness. He said that happiness brings money and happiness brings good health. (I'm paraphrasing in wide strokes.)
Something to think about.

I think I'm glad that Mel went with the one-week-a-month plan moving forward! From Mel's site:
The new name will be IComLeavWe (since it is a week) but isn't that cool: IComLeavWe--International Comment Leaving Week but say it aloud and it sounds like "I come; leave we." So you walk into the blog alone (as an "I") and you leave after reading and commenting as a "we." Because you've made a connection with someone.

Earlier this year, Not Quite What I Was Planning: Six-Word Memoirs by Writers Famous and Obscure was making a buzz through the internets. Which started a myriad of like-themed projects such as Novels in six words or less and Share your birth story in six words or less.
So when Laura asked her readers why they blog it seemed a good fit to try and answer in six words or less.
Why do you blog? Tag, you're it!
