Updated: Motivation and happiness

Yes, yes. I know. I ran this last week. But with Neatorama's recent post "Why Materialism Makes You Unhappy" and Seth Godin's post "When in doubt, (don't) follow the money" I felt the need to add "material things" to the diagram.

To clarify, I believe a certain amount of money is required for happiness. Money for food and shelter as examples. I seem to recall Deepak Chopra saying something to the effect of "giving away all of your money and material things will not make you happy."

In that same talk, he said that money doesn't bring happiness and that good health doesn't bring happiness. He said that happiness brings money and happiness brings good health. (I'm paraphrasing in wide strokes.)

Something to think about.

Like my grandmother always says: "Manneken, geld maakt niet gelukkig, maar geen geld maakt wel ongelukkig". That's dutch/flemish, loosely translated: Boy, money doesn't make you happy, but no money does make you unhappy.

Thanks a lot for all your wonderfull observations.
